East Sea paintings attract foreigners

A Taiwanese businessman has bought "Giu Bien" (Sea Keeping) of Vietnamese painter Uyen Huy which was displayed at a picture gallery in Ho Chi Minh City from September 19-30. The painting, worth VND120 million, features the image of the late President Ho Chi Minh and Vietnamese naval force who are safeguarding the country's sea and island. Copyright protection, forever a problem

Art copyright infringement is always a burning issue in Vietnam. The copying of famous paintings and using paintings without permission is rampant but no agency is responsible for protecting artists. At a seminar on art copyright protection in the central city of Da Nang last week, painters and officials complained about and suggested measures to deal with this situation. Outdoor sculptures on display in Vietnam metro


The exhibition features 64 works by 50 artists nationwide, half of whom are young ones, including Chi (Point) by Nguyen Tan Cuong, Tai tao (renewable) by Tran Tuan Nghia, and Noi toi (My grandfather) by Nguyen Van Chuoc.
