“A garden is not just a garden. It is a whole world of colours, shapes and fantasies if you look carefully. Just ask the Vietnamese artist Dang Duong Bang, who found inspiration in his own as well as other gardeners, for a large colourful bouquet of paintings, where flowers, women, fish and small fabulous monsters move around in a universe of burning colours. It is a world where the colours by themselves create new life in well-known themes”.

Dang Duong Bang is an international artist, but one could get the idea that he has found at least some inspiration from the best of the Cobra-painters.

His way of using the colours is floating, spontaneous, aggressive, and strong but sensual at the same time. He could probably paint a straw in a way so it would look like a fire.

The pictures are seductively beautiful, eatable and full of pleasure. Of course, Bang paints women in a way to make them look like flowers. The symbolism is charmingly straightforward. In one of his paintings, a beautiful woman with her eyes closed, is she dreaming about a golden lotus flower or is the flower that is dreaming of her?

This is a good thought to have at the back of one’s mind, when approaching the artist’s paintings – when the only choice is to get wrapped up in the pictures.”
