Dao Anh Khanh

Dao Anh Khanh was born in 1959 at Hanoi, Vietnam. At 22 year old, he graduated from Hanoi police academy and became a policeman .But his passionate love of art made him devoted to it. In 1990 ,31-year-old Dao Anh Khanh graduated from the Industrial Art College in Hanoi and started his passion and inspiration for the human form and spirit. His paintings focus on showing the energy and passion hidden inside the beauty of women viewed at different angles and dimensions, he has created paintings using the combination of silver’s and red’s on canvas to instill his own unique style into his pieces. “In Vietnam, most of artist paint nude bodies in an isolate space such as a bed. They are just nude bodies. But bring them get out of the closed room, coming to the market, to the nature, which is the beauty of life, the real life! Though they might never happen in Vietnam, I imagine those naked women carrying basket, or selling flowers with bicycle in the market.” Dao Anh Khanh has many paintings in private collections in Vietnam and abroad. He has exhibited in Paris, London, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and Washington. His works have also been published in magazines including Asian Pacific Art Magazine, Asian Art Magazine, Vietnam Review, and Vietnam Pictorial.

But of course he cannot stand still and now is eager to discover the world and since 1999, he has started a new concept of art. Today, Dao Anh Khanh is recognized as a pioneer in Vietnamese art and is now using different disciplines in visual art, which is performed in the language of the body’s movements in a space of multiform light and sound. Dao Anh Khanh has held five successful “Dao Xuan” (Spring Comes) shows in Hanoi. A work of movement, live music, video and visual installations that is a portrait of both their process and of their distinct places of origin/home. Each has different themes, expressing human aspirations towards the future in a modern life. In his shows, audiences are inspired by flickering flames, voices and the movements of the colour fully-painted bodies. Watching “Dao Xuan”, the audience will experience his art with all their senses. Khanh’s visual art has been supported by many important foundations including the Rockefeller Foundation and Ford Foundation. He had performed in Liverpool, London (UK), Baden (Switzerland), New York, Maine (US), Barcelona (Spain), and Hong Kong. The former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder visited Khanh’s beautiful House to watch his performance when he visited Vietnam in April 2007. At the end Schroeder wrote,”this is the man who will hold the future of this country!
